Chair - Dr Julian Povey
Julian has been a GP in Shropshire since 1994, and since 1995 has been a GP, and subsequently a partner since 1997, at Pontesbury Medical Practice. In 2021 Pontesbury practice merged with another local practice becoming Pontesbury & Worthen Medical Practice.
From 2009 he has been involved in commissioning healthcare and in 2011 was elected to the Shadow Board of Shropshire CCG, and in 2012 to the Governing Body of Shropshire CCG. In 2015 he became the GP lead, then in 2016 Chair of NHS Shropshire CCG. In August 2020 Julian became the Joint Chair for Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin CCGs until the end of March 2021. During his time at the CCG Julian was also Co-Chair of both Shropshire & Telford Health and Well being Boards.
Following his time on the CCG Julian was appointed as the GP Member Representative on NHS Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin between April 2022 and March 2024.
Julian has been a member of the West Midlands Clinical Senate Council since 2017.
In October 2023 Julian became the Chair of Shropshire and Telford GP Board a position he held until January 2025.
In January 2025 Julian became the Chair of Shropshire & Telford Local medical Committee.
Secretary - Dr Damien Thompson
Damien was born and brought up in Shropshire, the son of a local GP.
He has been a GP in Shropshire since 1999 working throughout the county both in Shropshire and Telford. He was a partner in Oakengates Medical Practice between 2001-2016 and is partner at both Knockin Medical Centre (since 2017) and Woodside Medical Practice (since 2024).
- He was on the board of STW GP Federation from 2015-17.

In January 2025 Damien became the Secretary of Shropshire & Telford Local medical Committee.
Vice Chair - Dr Nicola West
Dr Nicola West (Nik) has been a salaried GP at Wem and Prees Medical Practice since 2023. Prior to this she took a scenic route to General Practice via the pharmaceutical industry, visual electrophysiology and Core Medical Training. She was a BMA Local Negotiating Committee rep throughout her hospital career and has been Vice Chair of the LMC since May 2025.
Treasurer - Dr Adrian Penney
Dr Adrian Penney is a retained GP in Bishops Castle after being a partner for many years. He was co-opted onto the LMC for his work in localities, as an appraisal lead and educator with responsibility for a Community Hospital as well. He has been LMC Treasurer for 4 years.
He has bored generations of administrators and colleagues with the phrase ‘Where in the regulations does it say that?’.
